A catering gas burner for Low Pressure Butane - which is the gas bottle type I already have is about £30. Seems like everything I want to add to the system is another £20-£30. So if I can postpone that purchase I will.
One of our camping stoves is a
Cadac - Safari Chef which has served us well. The burner is substantial but I suspect that the legs wont take a 45kg brew pot.
As I have some concrete blocks sitting around I tried to see if I could find a way of shoring up the base. This may look dangerous but it takes my full weight standing on it which is almost twice the weight it needs to hold. Not to get a 50 litre brew pot which should set me back around £50.
The brew pot will also need a 1/2" BSP Stainless Steel Ball Valve if we are to use the plate chiller, but for now it will would save me an entire day preparing the water.
The future of our brew pot setup is still in the air. As we are doing 19 litre batches its likely that we can muddle on for now. Longer term, I am convinced that gas boiler is more cost efficient especially if we are to continue pre-boiling our water to precipitate chalk. And it seems that temperature control in the mash has the greatest impact on taste, so I am guessing it wont matter so much how the wort is boiled.
