Picked up a roll of this stuff at Liddell in Lewes for £9.99. Seems to 2 to 4 times the price everywhere else. It is aluminum foil both sides and appears to be plastic bubble wrap in between.

Measured around and made a few cuts into it to get it to fit around the fittings.
A couple of strips of Gaffa tape seems to hold it together well.
I'm boiling water today in preparation for Monday so I'll see how it goes. I'll put an electricity meter on and see if it uses less power over the 60 minute boil.
UPDATE!!!
Power meter socket not working.. however:
Insulation works well.. plastic appears to be unaffected by boil temperatures. Boiler also seems more responsive.
Mostly I am concerned about the wort boil as it seems that highest temperatures are only achieved with the lid on. Which is all good but I have read that the lid should be off to allow crap to boil off and escape. Brew day #3 on Monday so not long now.
UPDATE!!!
Brew Day #3 complete and it works perfectly.
The boil was more vigorous with the lid off. But I still had to put the lid on to get a really vigorous boil. The 2.5kW element will achieve the oft quoted 'rolling boil' but isn't really man enough to get to maximum temperature with the lid off. The insulation definitely make a big difference.
